Here are a couple of pics that comprise not even half of my herd. The newest horses in these pics were made this year (the yellow adult and the dark brown/cream baby), the oldest is 15+ years old, and is, I believe, the third horse I ever made. Think you can figure out which one that is? I started making these when I was still pretty young, and they were the first thing and nearly the only thing I have crochet.
The original pattern was created by my mom, and I have made some of my own adjustments to it. There is a lot of experimentation in the pattern going on in these horses, alot have to do with the body, neck, and the way I sewed some of the parts together. My experiments have settled as far as the adult goes, but the baby still has some adjustments I want to figure out. The two babies in these pics are some of the best ones I have made to date. The white with brown markings actually has no pattern variations, but the brown with cream markings does.
All the tack was made by myself using no patterns. I did that on my own. Also, the color variations are something that I do. My mom followed my example in the color variations, started when I used scraps to make my first horse which meant more than one color was used and my mom did her first varied color horse at that time (she gave me that horse with the first baby she ever made at its side, yeeee! happiness) I do more with the colors than I have seen my mom do, so with that and the variations we do our horses pretty different nowadays. It takes a lot more effort to do the color the way I do it, but I think it looks better and has more potential for original markings. Plus, I've gotten lots of experience color changing and doing paints. Here is a hint: The third horse I ever made was a paint.
The green and white, named Borealis, is rearing with little support. There is an icecream bucket lid below the pillow case he's standing on and having that just below/behind one of his fetlocks is all he needs to remain upright.
No, I don't think you did. I wanted to expand my herd, so I demanded for mom to teach me. It took forever too. It seemed like I kept doing chains chains and more chains before mom finally decided she'd let me do more than a chain and start my own horse. (I almost forgot about how long it took for mom to let me get past that chain when all I wanted was to make a horse! Ugh!)
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

Step on no pets!
This was the only reason I ever wanted to learn to crochet.
